COVID SECURE PLAN - 2021

The Run Sandringham team continues to monitor all developments relating to ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic. We will update the status of our event as often as possible. Our number one priority is to put on a safe event for everyone involved in June - the Participants, our fantastic volunteers, our staff and our stakeholders.

At this stage, we are very hopeful that things will improve sufficiently, and we will be able to proceed as planned for our 2021 dates. We’re having to think about every single risk and mitigating factor and how we manage that. We’re focused on how we can put on a safe, secure, and fun event.

To ensure our event is Covid-safe and to give us the BEST chance of putting on a successful event for all our runners, we have split our six events up over three days rather than two, we will stay well within Government and EA guidelines while still offering you the ideal covid-safe race environment.

We are so pleased that this plan has been endorsed by the StadiumMK, the MK Council, Public Health, and all other necessary stakeholders.

What will change in 2021?

The coronavirus situation is continuing to change. No-one can predict with certainty the situation by the time of our event in May. So we are developing a number of flexible event plans to suit a range of possible scenarios, including but not limited to…

  • Reduce the event capacity (All Half Marathon and 5K places now sold out - and reduced 10K places available)

  • New routes to reduce volunteer numbers

  • Social distancing

  • Limited aid stations en route

  • Staggered start times

  • Virtual race briefing

  • Expanded event village size, to accommodate social distancing

  • One-way flow in and out of event village

  • Clear signage

  • Hand sanitiser stations

  • Expanded registration size, to accommodate social distancing

  • The runner must sign a waiver to say that they haven’t had Covid symptoms in the last 14 days

  • No pacers

  • Temperature checks to be taken prior to entering event village

  • Government/WHO-recommended face coverings to be worn by all attendees before the race (unless medically exempt)

  • Government/WHO-recommended face coverings to be worn by all event staff (unless medically exempt)

  • Participant Code of Conduct

  • Spectator Code of Conduct

  • Volunteer Code of Conduct

  • Simple ‘grab and go’ bag for finishers

  • Prizes will be posted

Should the 2021 Run Sandringham events be unable to take place in-person, all registered participants would automatically be transferred to the 2021 Run Sandringham Virtual event and their rewards will be posted. Participants who do not want to take part virtually will be able to defer their registration to the 2022 event free of charge by a specific date, which will be published should the event be cancelled.

We hope things will become more clear in the next few months, and like you, eagerly await an update on the roadmap and loosening of national restrictions.

Thank you for supporting our event, and stay safe. We have included a set of FAQs for you below - which we hope you will find helpful.

What happens if the in person race cannot go ahead in 2021 due to COVID19?

In the event, an in-person race cannot take place, all registered participants will automatically be transferred to the equivalent 2021 Virtual Run Sandringham event.

What if the in person race is cancelled and I do not want to run virtually?

Even though we’re excited about the virtual race experience, we understand that it may not replace the in-person experience for everyone. If you’re not interested in the virtual race, you would have one week after the cancellation date to defer your entry free of charge, to the equivalent event in 2022.

What happens if I do not want to participate but I still want to receive my medal and rewards?

If you’re unable to participate but still want your medal and rewards, you may transfer your registration to the virtual event. Log into your Total Race Timing account at www.totalracetiming.co.uk. Find your 2021 event and follow the prompts to transfer to the Virtual Run Sandringham event

What additional safety measures have you put in place to protect participants and volunteers?

We are developing a number of different and flexible event plans to suit a range of possible scenarios, including…

  • Reducing the number of entries

  • Temperature checks

  • Social distancing

  • Wearing face masks before the race

  • Changes to the start time of events to allow for small and scheduled wave starts.

  • Pre-allocated start time

  • Hand sanitiser stations

  • Possible changes to the route/s

  • Controlling spectators access to the stadium and start area

  • Reducing or removing ‘contact points’ at the event, such as aid stations and hospitality

What will change from the original race plans?

As we develop race plans we will update participants regarding any changes that may be necessary. We will make appropriate adjustments to our traditional race experience that are necessary to enable a safe and responsible event for our participants and community. That could mean any number of modifications to our traditional race experience, including but not limited to changes to the race routes, water stations, masks, starting zones, and times.

Can I get a refund on my registration?

Unfortunately, your race entry fee is non-refundable as per the entry terms and conditions.
